French Institute in Serbia, with support from SUEZ group, in partnership with Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, United Nations Development Programme, Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia, Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, Delegation of EU in Serbia and Center for promotion of science, on 19 and 20 June are organizing European science conference called “Climate caravan”. The conference will take place in Yugoslavian konteka, Uzun Mirkova 1, Belgrade, starting at 10 a.m.
The goal of the project “Climate caravan” is to raise awareness of people in Serbia, especially the young ones, about necessity of energy transition and switching to renewable energy sources. As fossil fuels are one of the main reasons for increasing the greenhouse gasses, raising awareness about the problem among the citizens and acceptance of needed change are necessary precondition for countries to implement more efficient mitigation measures and more usage of renewable energy sources. Citizens should accept their role in energy transition, by changing and adapting their everyday behavior in energy usage, and therefore encourage the state to energy transition which she certainly must turn to.
The project is composed from educative exhibition which was designed by French institute in Serbia on different energy sources and interactive workshops which were designed by Centre for promotion of science. This project is streaming to promote initiatives which already exist in Serbia in the field, especially innovative climate smart solutions proposed and implemented by the small and medium enterprises and local self-governments in Serbia with support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and United Nations Development Programme, through the “Climate Smart Urban Development” Challenge project.
In the project “Climate caravan” lecturers from France and Serbia will take part and will speak about the best ways for usage of renewable energy sources in Serbia. Serbian start-ups and civil society organisations will present their experiences and good practices in Serbia during the early stages of energy transition, which are necessary for reduction of GHG emissions and mitigation of climate change.
