Steliana Nedera, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Serbia and Marina Olshanskaya, Regional Technical Advisor on Energy and Climate Change from UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub, met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, Stana Bozovic, to discuss continuation of collaboration in the field of climate change.
During this High-level meeting, State Secretary Bozovic evaluated cooperation with UNDP as very successful, in particular in the area of climate change. Particular attention of the discussion was focused on support that was provided to Serbia in terms of compliance with the requirements of international processes as well as the EU Accession Process. State Secretary Bozovic pointed out the importance of development of future cooperation with the involvement of local self-governments and different economic sectors for the purpose of maximizing the adaptation measures and reducing the emissions of greenhouse gasses. It has also been discussed to support further institutional strengthening of the line Ministry in the area of climate change.
Both parties have agreed to pursue the identified priorities of collaboration in the field of climate change, underlining the readiness of UNDP to provide appropriate implementation assistance in direct collaboration with the line Ministry and other stakeholders. Parties have also agreed that there is a range of opportunities for improved cooperation and new initiatives based on the recently signed Paris Climate Agreement with the financing options embedded in international financing mechanisms, such as for example the Global Environment Facility and the Green Climate Fund.
