On the 25th November a media workshop on climate change was held at the UNDP offices in Belgrade. The workshop – aimed at journalists and editors reporting on climate change, ecology, energy, agriculture, the economy, public law and related areas – was organised under the auspices of UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.
The event took place ahead of the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) of the UNFCCC and was an opportunity to present the latest content in this area in the Republic of Serbia, specifically:
– The latest scientific findings on climate change trends in Serbia
– Publications for the general public which the UNDP is preparing in co-operation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection on climate change and health, agriculture, water and energy and industry, based on the First Biennial Update Report (FBUR) and the Second National Communication (SNC).
– International initiatives in this area and their significance for the economy, legislation and the institutions of the Republic of Serbia.
– Experiences and challenges in the day-to-day reporting on climate change in the media
The media workshop was addressed by the leading experts in this area in Serbia and was opened by Her Excellency Christine Moro, the Ambassador of the Republic of France in Serbia and Steliana Nedera, Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP in Serbia.
The gathering was attended by a number of journalists from the specialist and general media in Serbia and ended with a discussion on how to advance media reporting on this topic.
Workshop participants were in agreement that COP21 in Paris presents a historic opportunity at the global level to reach a binding agreement on the reduction of greenhouse gases and that the workshop succeeded in presenting key concepts in this area, in order to further indepth and timely reporting.
